This paper lays out a vision for empathic mixed reality, connecting empathic computing — using technology to build shared understanding between people — with the immersive collaboration that mixed reality affords. It surveys the authors' work on sharing gaze between AR and VR collaborators, using physiological signals to enhance collaborative VR, and supporting eye-gaze interaction. Early results suggest that interfaces designed to build empathy between people can also improve the individual user's own experience.
