Augmented Reality-Based Procedural Task Training Application for Less Privileged Children and Autistic Individuals

This work evaluates augmented reality for teaching multi-step tasks to children from less-privileged backgrounds and to autistic individuals, using tangram puzzles. It compares AR instruction against live demonstration and a desktop application, first with neurotypical children aged 9–12 and then with autistic participants. Children took longest with the desktop mode and shortest with live demonstration, and autistic participants were able to learn from AR instructions but needed more time — suggesting AR is a viable, if slower-paced, teaching aid for these groups.
