A systematic review of ten years of augmented reality usability studies: 2005 to 2014

Augmented-reality research had produced a growing but scattered body of user studies. This systematic review examines the most influential AR user studies from 2005 to 2014 — 291 papers containing 369 individual studies — classified by application area to map the field and how it changed. It finds a rising trend toward handheld AR studies and that most were run in the lab without pilot testing, and it distils best practices for researchers designing their own AR evaluations.
