An Empiric Evaluation of Confirmation Methods for Optical See-Through Head-Mounted Display Calibration

Calibrating optical see-through headsets requires the user to align on-screen points with the real world and confirm each alignment, and the confirmation step itself can introduce error. This paper empirically compares four confirmation methods — keyboard, hand-held, voice, and waiting — using a video see-through display to record ground-truth alignments. The 'waiting' method, designed to reduce head motion, was significantly more accurate than the others, and averaging alignments over a short time window improved every method further.
